Washington, DC - A New Jersey mortgage underwriter was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison for helping others file false tax returns claiming large refunds from the IRS, obstructing the IRS’s efforts to recover those illegal refunds and failing to file a tax return.

Washington, DC - Two Guatemalan nationals were extradited to the United States from Guatemala to face international narcotics trafficking charges.

Houston, Texas - In the first extradition from the Republic of Cameroon to the United States, a Texas man was extradited to Houston to serve an 80-year prison sentence he received in absentia four years ago after he pleaded guilty in two separate cases to conspiracy, health care fraud, money laundering, and tax offenses.

Brawley, California - At approximately 0400 hours on December 15, 2021, Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call from Brawley Police advising of a “man down” and possibly deceased near the Highway 78 and Hovely Road intersection. Brawley police received a call from a passerby at approximately 0350 hours regarding a subject at that location, not moving, with severe injuries.

Miami, Florida - A former National Football League (NFL) player was sentenced today to 37 months in federal prison for fraudulently obtaining over $1.2 million through a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
