Sacramento, California - The Assembly Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials passed two bills (AB 965, AB 1059) with overwhelmingly bi-partisan support today authored by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, which would require the California Mexico Border Relations Council to better coordinate the funding and implementation of the New River Strategic Plan.  The second would direct CalEPA to improve air quality monitoring and better fund environmental improvement projects along the California-Mexico border region.

San Diego, California - Gevorg “George” Kupelian was sentenced Monday to 30 months in custody for his role in a fraud scheme that involved billing Medicare for medical tests on unsuspecting seniors that were either medically unnecessary or were never performed.

El Centro, California - In California’s Imperial Valley, HSI special agents arrested 28 individuals, including 10 documented gang members of the Brole, North Side Centro, West Side Centro, South Side Centro and Pilgrim Street gangs as part of Operation ‘Project Wildfire’.

El Centro, California - Imperial County Sheriff’s Office announced the completion ceremony for inmates attending courses with Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program through a grant sponsored by the Second Chance Act.  The courses were designed to serve medium to high risk offenders to increase their education level and employability at the time of release.  The awarded 2nd Chance grant to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and IVSROP was written to target 45 incarcerated adults housed at ICSO and slated to be on probation.
