Calexico, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a Sureño gang member on Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., Border Patrol agents were on patrol when they observed a man illegally enter the United States about 12 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry.
Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for processing.
At the station, record checks revealed the man was previously charged and convicted for Shooting at an Inhabited Dwelling. The man received a 10-year prison sentence in California for his crimes. He also self-admitted to being a member of the notorious Sureños gang.
Additionally, agents determined that he was previously removed from the United States in 2014.
The man, a 35-year-old Mexican national, is in federal custody pending prosecution for federal crimes.
