Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Friday approved Vaxchora, a vaccine for the prevention of cholera caused by serogroup O1 in adults 18 through 64 years of age traveling to cholera-affected areas. Vaxchora is the only FDA-approved vaccine for the prevention of cholera.

Studies have shown that Americans born between 1945 and 1965 are five times more likely than other individuals to be infected with the virus. Yellow Fever Outbreak Concerns

Rochester, Minnesota - The ongoing outbreak of yellow fever in Angola has global public health officials closely monitoring the situation. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) updated its rapid risk assessment due to concerns of potential international spread of the mosquito-borne disease. The ECDC says, “Currently, all regions in Angola should be considered as areas at high risk of transmission of yellow fever. The yellow fever outbreak in Uganda is unrelated to the outbreak in Angola."
