Washington, DC - The United States seeks to strengthen global efforts against trafficking in persons, migrant smuggling, and other pernicious forms of transnational crime at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) in Vienna, October 17-21. Ambassador Susan Coppedge, appointed by President Obama to lead U.S. global engagement against human trafficking, joins the U.S. delegation which is led by Ambassador Luis Arreaga, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and includes officials from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and Department of State.

In Kigali, Rwanda, I was proud to help represent the United States as the nearly 200 Parties to the Montreal Protocol agreed to an amendment to phase down the use and production of potent greenhouse gases known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The Kigali Amendment we adopted could avoid up to half a degree Celsius of warming by the end of the century.

Washington, DC - Today, in another major milestone for international climate action, nearly 200 countries reached an agreement to phase down the potent greenhouse gases known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). At the 28th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol in Kigali, Rwanda, countries adopted an amendment to phase down HFCs, committing to cut the production and consumption of HFCs by more than 80 percent over the next 30 years.

El Centro, California - More than 4,400 Red Cross volunteers from throughout the U.S. are currently en route to or on the ground in the Southeast assisting with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. Twenty-nine of them are from the American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties.
