Escondido, California - A confiscated male tiger cub, currently residing at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, has become a star attraction overnight - unbeknownst to him. Since his arrival this past Wednesday, the cub has been doing well and is thriving in his new surroundings under the watchful eyes of the dedicated animal care team who are caring for him.

San Diego, California - The San Diego Zoo is welcoming a new resident this month, after okapi mom Mbaya gave birth to her first calf, adding one more individual to a population that is in steady decline worldwide. Only a few zoos in the United States house the endangered okapi, and 3-week-old Mosi, standing on wobbly legs and with an evident sense of curiosity, became the first okapi to be born at the San Diego Zoo in four years.

Washington, DC - As an additional measure in the fight against Zika virus, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it has made available a panel of human plasma samples to aid in the regulatory evaluation of serological tests to detect recent Zika virus infection.

South China Sea - The guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) was involved in a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore today.

Washington, DC - A team of civilian researchers led by entrepreneur and philanthropist Paul G. Allen has announced they have found the wreck of the World War II cruiser USS Indianapolis (CA 35), which was lost July 30, 1945.

El Centro, California - Today, Ralph Cordova, Jr., Imperial County’s Executive Officer, announced that he will retire from Imperial County after twenty five years of dedicated service. Cordova has served as the County Executive Officer (CEO) for the last nine years.  During his tenure with the County, Cordova also served in several leadership positions as both the County Counsel and the Assistant District Attorney.
