Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry: "I welcome the completion and launch of an 8.5 MW solar installation in Rwanda by Gigawatt Global. This is the first utility-scale solar project to come online under the U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Finance (ACEF) program, which is now an integral part of Power Africa. The project expands electricity generation capacity by more than 6 percent in a country where more than 80 percent of the people live without access to electricity, and is providing enough grid-connected power to supply 15,000 homes.

Washington, DC - Increasing its commitment to help those affected by the crisis in Syria, the United States is providing an additional $125 million in humanitarian assistance to the UN World Food Program (WFP), which feeds nearly six million Syrians and refugees from Syria every month. The announcement was made today by Jeremy Konyndyk, Director of USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance and Kelly Clements, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, in Geneva, Switzerland.
