Washington, DC - The Justice Department’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) today announced the release of a new $2.8 million funding opportunity as part of OVW’s Sexual Assault Justice Initiative (SAJI). Launched in April 2015, the SAJI is an opportunity to improve how the justice system in general, and prosecution in particular, handles sexual assault cases. This funding announcement will support approximately eight pilot sites to receive up to $400,000 to implement performance measures that reflect promising practices for prosecuting sexual assault and promote justice for victims.

Washington, DC - As part of our DHS Unity of Effort initiative, I have directed an important new measure to unify the Department’s research and development (R&D) activities. Specifically, I have directed the establishment of Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). These IPTs will be charged with coordinating and prioritizing research and development across the Department in a number of areas, such as aviation security, biological threats, counterterrorism, border security, cybersecurity and disaster resilience.

Washington, DC - The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Washington, DC, office today announced the arrests of two individuals in connection with a seizure of approximately 265 pounds of synthetic drugs with an estimated street value worth $2.3 million in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Narcotics and Special Investigations Division. The largest single seizure of synthetic drugs in the district to date contained 19,247 packets of “Bizarro” drugs, which analysis revealed to be XR-11, a schedule 1 controlled substance.
