San Diego, California - Sailors and Marines from Littoral Combat Group One (LCG-1) returned home to Naval Base San Diego and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam after participating in the International Maritime and Naval Exhibition for South America, known as EXPONAVAL.

Washington, DC - An eight year-old Guatemalan national, previously apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, died shortly before midnight on December 24 at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico.  Consistent with CBP’s commitment to accountability and transparency, CBP is releasing a timeline reflecting a current understanding of key events that occurred prior to the child’s passing.  These updates are based on initial operational reporting.

Baltimore, Maryland - A federal grand jury returned a seventh superseding indictment Monday charging nine men in connection with a conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise known as La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.

Virgin Islands - The Justice Department announced that the federal district court for the District of the Virgin Islands yesterday found the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) in substantial compliance with a consent decree relating to VIPD’s use of force practices.  The consent decree requires VIPD to now maintain compliance for a period of two years. The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of the Virgin Islands have worked cooperatively throughout the duration of this matter.
