Calexico, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a previously deported gang member west of the Calexico Port of Entry on Wednesday.
At approximately 5:35 p.m., Border Patrol agents arrested a man after he illegally entered into the United States about one mile west of the Calexico port of entry.
The man was transported to the El Centro Border Patrol station for processing. There, agents discovered he was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha Parkview criminal street gang and a convicted felon.
“This arrest showcases the tireless efforts of the men and women of the Border Patrol. Apprehending dangerous individuals and keeping them out of our communities allows us to live in a safer place,” said Miguel Garcia, Acting Special Operations Supervisor of the El Centro Sector.
The man, a 31-year-old Mexican national, was placed in Border Patrol custody to be further processed for his illegal entry into the United States.
From October 1, 2014 through August 31, 2015, El Centro Sector had 14,511 apprehensions.
