Imperial, California - Wednesday, at approximately 11:19 a.m., Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Imperial Valley College (IVC) in reference to a subject making online threats to harm IVC students and staff. Deputies received information that the suspect sent text messages containing photos of the campus and several firearms.
The suspect was identified as 21 year old Roberto Castorena from El Centro. An immediate search for Castorena was conducted by Deputies and Sheriff’s Investigators at IVC and in the City of El Centro, CA. Castorena was subsequently located in the City of El Centro and placed under arrest for making criminal threats. Castorena did not have any firearms in his possession at the time of arrest. Castorena was booked at the Imperial County Jail where he is being held on a $100,000.00 bail. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution, additional investigative follow up will be conducted by Sheriff’s Office Investigators.
