Washington, DC - May’s Employment Situation Report highlighted the historically low unemployment rate, which remained at 3.6 percent in May—matching the lowest rate in almost 50 years (since 1969). This marks the 15th consecutive month where the rate has been at or below 4 percent. In addition the unemployment rate for Hispanics remained at 4.2 percent—matching the lowest rate since the series began in 1973.  Among African Americans, the unemployment rate fell by 0.5 percentage points to 6.2 percent, nearing the historic low of 5.9 percent. The unemployment rate for those with some college or an associate degree declined by 0.3 percentage points to 2.8 percent—the lowest rate since March 2001.

Washington, DC - Thursday, the U.S. Department of State published a Federal Register notice of 23 individuals and entities statutorily debarred for having been convicted of violating, or conspiring to violate, the Arms Export Control Act (22 U.S.C. 2751, et seq.).  This action, as required by section 127.7(b) of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR parts 120-130), highlights the Department’s responsibility to protect U.S. defense articles, including technical data and defense services from unauthorized exports and brokering.

Washington, DC - Yesterday, 10 teams were selected to win $100,000, plus vouchers for $37,500 to use anywhere in the American-Made network, as part of the American-Made Solar Prize at a national demonstration day in Boston, MA. Twenty teams presented their proofs of concept to a panel of expert judges and were chosen based on how far they have advanced their solar prototype. The finalists are:
