Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of San Jose Police Department Officer Michael Johnson:
“Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to Officer Johnson’s family, friends and fellow officers. Officer Johnson will be remembered for his courage and dedicated service and we join the entire San Jose community in mourning this tragic loss.”
Officer Johnson, 38, of San Jose, died yesterday after he was shot while responding to a report of a despondent, intoxicated subject at a residence in the City of San Jose.
Officer Johnson was a 14-year veteran of the San Jose Police Department. He was assigned as a field training officer. He is survived by his wife, Nicole, and parents, Katherine Decker and Daniel Johnson.
In honor of Officer Johnson, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
