Sacramento, California - Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Juvilyn Alegre, 47, of Chula Vista, has been reappointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where she has served since 2016. Alegre has served as fire prevention supervisor at the San Diego Fire Rescue Department since 2012, where she was a fire prevention inspector from 2007 to 2012. She was a wastewater pretreatment inspector at the City of San Diego Metropolitan Wastewater Department from 2000 to 2007 and hazardous materials inspector at the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department from 1994 to 2000. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Alegre is a Democrat.
Erick Mikiten, 55, of Berkeley, has been reappointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where he has served since 2012. Mikiten has been president at Mikiten Architecture since 1991 and was a lecturer and instructor at the University of California, Berkeley from 1990 to 1991. He earned a Master of Architecture degree in from the University of California, Berkeley. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mikiten is a Democrat.
Kent Sasaki, 53, of Walnut Creek, has been reappointed to the California Building Standards Commission, where he has served since 2012. Sasaki has held several positions at Wiss Janney Elstner Associates Inc. since 1989, including principal, board member and engineer. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineers Association of California. Sasaki earned a Master of Engineering degree in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Sasaki is a Democrat.
James Burleson, 51, of Petaluma, has been reappointed to the 4th District Agricultural Association, Sonoma-Marin Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2006. Burleson has been founding principal at Burleson + Company since 2004. He was an investment specialist at Charles Schwab from 2003 to 2004, a business development officer at the Premier Trading Group from 2002 to 2003 and lead market maker at Joseph D. Heard Jr. Inc. from 1996 to 1998. Burleson is treasurer at the Petaluma Rotary Club Foundation and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Finance Council. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Burleson is a Republican.
Nicole Marzo, 51, of Petaluma, has been reappointed to the 4th District Agricultural Association, Sonoma-Marin Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2006. Marzo has been a realtor with Coldwell Banker, Petaluma and owner at Lace House Linen Supply Inc. since 2000. She was sales marketing director at Mixed Emotions Fine Art from 1999 to 2000. Marzo is a member of the Society of California Pioneers and a volunteer at Petaluma National Little League. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Marzo is a Republican.
Lois Merriweather Moore, 71, of Novato, has been reappointed to the 4th District Agricultural Association, Sonoma-Marin Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2014. Moore has been an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco since 2003. She was a consultant for the United Negro College Fund, Gates Millennium Scholars Program from 2004 to 2011. Moore was a teacher for the Novato Unified School District from 1973 to 2002. She earned a Doctor of Education degree in international and multicultural education from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Arts degree in education from Sonoma State University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Moore is a Democrat.
Greg Herman, 52, of Tulelake, has been reappointed to the 10a District Agricultural Association, Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2012. Herman has been a member of the Lassen Canyon Nursery’s Macdoel management team since 2013. He served as agricultural commissioner and sealer for Siskiyou County from 2007 to 2013 and held several positions at the Siskiyou County Agriculture Department from 1992 to 1998, including assistant agricultural commissioner, deputy agricultural commissioner and agricultural biologist. He was feedlot operations manager at Swan Lake Feeders Inc. from 1992 to 1998. Herman is a member of Tulelake 4-H. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Rachel Misso, 67, of Tulelake, has been reappointed to the 10a District Agricultural Association, Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2015. Misso served as a teacher at the Tulelake Basin Joint Unified School District from 1989 to 2012. She is a member of the Tulelake Area Service Club, Friends of the Modoc County Library, Tulelake Chamber of Commerce, Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of the Eastern Star and the Klamath Hospice, Inc. Laura Schaad, 26, of Tulelake, has been reappointed to the 10a District Agricultural Association, Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2017. Schaad has been a fair entry manager at Tulelake-Butte Valley Fairgrounds since 2017 and business development marketing specialist at County Cork Collectibles since 2017, where she has held several positions since 2013, including media specialist, operations manager and store associate. She was a farm loan officer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 2015 to 2017, a universal banker at U.S. Bank from 2014 to 2015 and office assistant for the Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair in 2011. Angela Sutton, 33, of Tulelake, has been appointed to the 10a District Agricultural Association, Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair Board of Directors.
