California Farm Academy strives to create a new labor pipeline

Sacramento, California - Farmers have been struggling with not only a labor shortage on one end, but long-term supervisors, farm managers and farm owners starting to age-out of the business. The Center for Land-Based Learning, a non-profit organization located in Winters, recently created the California Farm Academy (CFA) Apprenticeship Program to help address this need. The planning and creation of this apprenticeship was through a CDFA Specialty Crop Block Grant in 2015, and was developed with the help of Soil Born Farms in Sacramento.

Washington, DC - The American economy is strong, and manufacturing jobs are growing steadily.
Jobs in goods-producing industries, which include manufacturing, recently grew at the fastest rate since President Reagan was in office. In Utah, 7,400 manufacturing jobs have been added since November 2016.

Washington, DC - In celebration of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, the Energy Department announces a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Army to collaborate in the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for military and civilian use. Signed by the Director of the U.S. Department of Army’s Tank & Automotive Research Development and Engineering Command (TARDEC), Dr. Paul Rogers, and the Director of the Department of Energy’s Fuel Cell Technologies Office, Dr. Sunita Satyapal, the MOU will enable the two research organizations to work more closely on technologies that can meet both organizations’ goals.

Washington, DC - As part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s efforts to promote drug competition and patient access, we’ve advanced many policies aimed at making it more efficient to bring generic competition to the market. We have been especially focused on a category of medicines known as complex drugs. These are drugs that, by nature of their formulation or delivery systems for example, are harder to “genericize” under our traditional approaches. As a result, these drugs often face less competition.
