Washington, DC - In response to reports of unintended interruptions of Burmese trade due to sanctions concerns with a key Rangoon port, the Treasury Department issued General License 20 (GL 20) today. GL 20 is a technical fix to support exports to and from Burma, while maintaining the integrity of U.S. sanctions and pressure on Specially Designated Nationals (SDNs).

Washington, DC - We regret the Russian Government’s decision to designate the U.S.-Russia Foundation as a so-called “undesirable” foreign organization. Ever since President Bush and President Putin announced their intent to establish the Foundation at the St. Petersburg G8 Summit in 2006, the Foundation has worked in partnership with the Russian Government and prominent Russian institutions to carry out its mission to promote long-term economic development and rule of law in Russia and to strengthen ties between our two countries.

Washington, DC - On conclusion of Egypt's parliamentary elections, the United States looks forward to the seating of the new parliament and to our continued engagement with the Egyptian Government and people. We note preliminary statements by domestic and international observers that Egypt’s Higher Electoral Commission administered the elections professionally and in accordance with Egyptian laws, although we remain concerned about low voter turnout and limited participation by opposition parties.
