Los Angeles, California - A Placentia woman already serving a prison sentence for defrauding Medi-Cal is expected to be arraigned this afternoon on new federal charges related to her operation of a hospice that submitted millions of dollars in fraudulent bills to Medicare and Medi-Cal for purportedly providing end-of-life care to patients who were, in fact, not dying.

Earlier today, United States Congressman Michael Grimm pleaded guilty at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, New York, to aiding and assisting the preparation of a false tax return. Since 2011, Grimm has served as a member of the United States House of Representatives representing New York’s 11th Congressional District, which includes the borough of Staten Island and parts of the borough of Brooklyn, in New York City.

Chicago, Illinois - The Justice Department today announced the filing of a lawsuit against the Chicago Board of Education, alleging that the board discriminated against pregnant teachers at Scammon Elementary School by subjecting them to adverse personnel actions, including termination in some instances, after they announced their pregnancies. According to the complaint, these adverse personnel actions were in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
