Brussels, Belgium - Secretary Kerry met today in Brussels with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
The two ministers reviewed the situation in Syria, emphasizing the need for all parties to the cessation of hostilities to abide by their commitments and to contribute to the political process for transition. They also discussed ongoing coalition efforts against Da'esh in Iraq and in the region, as well as international efforts to address the worsening refugee crisis. The Secretary thanked Foreign Minister Cavusoglu for Turkey's leadership in this regard. The Secretary also discussed the importance of freedom of expression and a free and independent media.
