Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - Secretary Kerry met tonight with Saudi King Salman, and enjoyed a working dinner afterward with the Crown Prince, Deputy Crown Prince, Foreign Minister and other senior Saudi officials.
The group discussed a wide range of regional and bilateral security issues, to include the conflict in Syria and ongoing coalition efforts against Da'esh.
Following up on this week's meeting in Vienna, the Secretary thanked the King for Saudi Arabia's support to multi-lateral efforts to pursue a political transition in Syria, in accordance with the Geneva Communique, and reaffirmed our mutual goal of achieving a unified, pluralistic and stable country for all Syrians.
Both sides noted the importance of mobilizing the international community to support this goal and reiterated the need for a transition away from Asad. They pledged to continue and intensify support to the moderate Syrian opposition while the political track is being pursued.
They also discussed developments in Yemen and Libya and pledged to work together in advance of the upcoming COP 21 climate conference in Paris.
