Washington, DC - From July 15-17, the Department of State, in partnership with The George Washington University Elliott School for International Affairs, will host the 6th Annual Generation Prague Conference.

In April 2009, President Obama delivered a speech in Prague, Czech Republic, stating America's commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons. President Obama acknowledged that “this goal will not be reached quickly,” but with concrete steps and the optimism and spirit of young people around the world, we can chart the next steps.

With this mind, the Department of State holds an annual conference devoted to educating younger generations on international security and nuclear policy that explores creative and cooperative solutions to the arms control and nonproliferation challenges facing the world.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Bridging Divides, Defining the Future” and speakers range from Senior Administration Officials to emerging experts in the field including National Security Council Senior Director for Arms Control and Nonproliferation Jon Wolfsthal; National Security Advisor to Vice President Biden Colin Kahl; Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller; Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Thomas Countryman; Ambassador Adam Scheinman, Special Representative of the President for Nuclear Nonproliferation; Shaun Casey, Department of State Special Representative for Religion and Global Affairs; the Honorable Ellen Tauscher; Dr. Wellerstein; and others.

The July 15-16 portion of the conference at the Department of State is open to the press and all remarks will be on-the-record. Press interviews during these days will be held on a case-by-case basis after each session. The July 17 portion at George Washington University is open to the media and will be held under Chatham House rules.
