Washington, DC - Secretary of State John Kerry: "On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I offer our warmest congratulations to the people of Solomon Islands on your Independence Day on July 7.
"For over 30 years, diplomatic relations between our two nations have prospered as we continue to deepen cooperation on issues ranging from peace and security to adapting to the impact of climate change. I was honored to have visited your country last August, a demonstration of the enduring strength of the bond between our nations that was forged in Guadalcanal on August 7, 1942. We anticipate further growth in relations in the years to come. I look forward to further productive discussions between our two nations at the Pacific Islands Forum in September.
"As you commemorate Independence Day, know that the American people and I support Solomon Islands and wish you a joyful celebration."
