Washington, DC - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry today announced he will convene a global Impact Economy Forum, focused on clean energy investments and climate change, this fall.
The announcement was made via video message during the closing session of the May 20-21 Business and Climate Summit in Paris.
The Secretary’s Forum will utilize expertise from corporations, universities, philanthropies, investors, and entrepreneurs to discuss and promote the impact that green investment can have in the fight against global climate change.
It will also provide a platform for both the private sector and U.S. Government initiatives to highlight successful efforts to channel investments toward climate change solutions.
The first Global Impact Economy Forum, held in 2012, gathered 350 high level investors, executives, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, academics, and policymakers to discuss how to increase coordination and collaboration in investing for development.
Secretary Kerry has spoken previously on the important economic opportunity of clean energy investment, most recently during a March 12 speech at the Atlantic Council.
His forum will highlight the range of existing U.S. Government initiatives and programs available to engage the private sector in advancing clean energy and addressing climate change including from the U.S. Agency for International Development, the State Department, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and other government agencies.
It will also point to successful initiatives to deploy innovative financing tools to advance international climate efforts and showcase examples of private sector investments that advance clean energy and climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
The forum will support global efforts toward concluding a successful international climate accord in Paris in December, and will further ongoing U.S. engagement with the private sector.
