Washington, DC - To solidify the partnership between the young people of Egypt and the United States, the U.S. Government is announcing the launch of the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative.  The United States seeks to provide young Egyptians with the skills to obtain the jobs that will both help Egypt meet the needs of a 21st century economy, with a particular focus on science, technology and entrepreneurship, and on women’s education, and provide meaningful employment to the thousands of Egyptians who enter the work force each year.

The unprecedented $250 million initiative will provide Egyptians with up to 1,900 university scholarships and exchanges to study in the United States and Egypt, and it will support up to 20 higher education partnerships to strengthen research and exchanges between Egyptian and U.S. universities.
