Washington, DC - Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance Dr. Yleem D.S. Poblete will travel to The Hague, Vienna, and Bucharest, June 26 - 30.
In The Hague, she will support Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, who will deliver the national statement at the special session of the Conference of States Parties of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to address the ongoing use of chemical weapons worldwide and to reinforce the global norm against such use. In Vienna, Dr. Poblete will meet with officials of the IAEA and the CTBTO Preparatory Commission, and engage with the relevant labs and facilities to discuss monitoring, detection and verification efforts – particularly with respect to DPRK, Syria and Iran. She will then travel to Bucharest to engage in meetings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defense as well as a site visit related to the Open Skies Treaty.
