Washington, DC - The United States of America, the People’s Republic of China, and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan convened a high-level meeting on Afghanistan’s peaceful development and regional cooperation on the margins of the 70th UN General Assembly. Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani were joined by representatives of Afghanistan’s regional and international friends and partners.

Washington, DC - We condemn the recent decision by Russia-backed separatist leaders in Luhansk, Ukraine, to expel UN agencies and all international nongovernmental organizations providing humanitarian assistance in the area. This will endanger many lives and is contrary to the Minsk agreements.

Washington, DC - The Department of State and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are co-sponsoring an experts’ symposium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on September 29 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. that will feature two panels reviewing international cooperation against the looting and trafficking of antiquities from the conflict in Iraq and Syria.

Washington, DC - The United States is encouraged by recent developments in the Colombia peace negotiations, including the six-month timeline for signing a final agreement.  We are hopeful that negotiations will conclude successfully and lay the foundation for a lasting peace after more than 50 years of armed conflict.
