San Diego, California - Reilly Boyt, a rising sophomore in the UC San Diego women's swimming and diving program, will represent the United States at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which start Friday, August 7, and run through Saturday, August 15.
Boyt, a native of Fort Collins, Colorado, is entered in three individual events in the 400-meter freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. She is also expected to participate in several relays.
Boyt is no stranger to competing for Team USA. This will mark her second Parapan Am Games, having previously earned a gold medal in the 100 breast and silver in the 200 IM at the 2011 event in Guadalajara, Mexico. The 19-year-old Triton's ultimate goal is to qualify for the next Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil, September 7-18, 2016.
The swimming competition at the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Aquatics Centre & Field House begins on Saturday, with the program containing finals of the 400 free just after 2:30 p.m. PT. Boyt is set to defend her gold in the 100 breast on Tuesday, August 11, at approximately 2:51 p.m. PT. Preliminaries for the 200 IM are also slated for Tuesday, at 6:44 a.m. PT, with the final later that same evening at 4:04 p.m. PT.
The Parapan Am Games is a major international multi-sport event held every four years, after each Pan American Games. This newest edition in Toronto is the fifth.
The UCSD men's and women's swimming and diving teams open their 2015-16 seasons against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Canyonview Aquatic Center on Oct. 31.
