Washington, DC - Renowned primatologist and conservationist- Dr. Jane Goodall will discuss the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI)’s work promoting health, gender equality, and conservation at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in the Burns Auditorium of the Marshall Center at the Department of State. 

Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Heather Higginbottom, will give opening remarks and Elizabeth Jordan, Director of the State Department’s Office of Global Health Diplomacy, will moderate a brief Q & A session with Dr. Goodall following her remarks.  

Dr. Goodall’s thirty-minute talk will focus on the human impact on critical primate habitats and JGI’s work with local communities to reduce pressure on the natural resources of these habitats.  JGI has found that when communities, and especially women and girls, are empowered with education and the skills to meet their basic health needs and earn sustainable, environmentally-friendly livelihoods, they are more invested in protecting their habitats.

The Office of Global Health Diplomacy will host the talk and has invited State Department staff, the Diplomatic Corps, civil society and students to attend.
