Washington, DC - The American Red Cross elected two new members to its National Board of Governors: Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Internet Services at Apple, and David A. Thomas, dean and William R. Berkley chair for the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business.
The Red Cross is led by a Board of Governors with all of the powers of governing and directing, as well as overseeing the management of the business and affairs of the organization. At the Annual Meeting of the Red Cross held on July 14, Bailey and Thomas were elected for three-year terms by delegates from local Red Cross chapters and blood regions across the country. The board now has 16 governors.

Jennifer Bailey is vice president of Internet Services at Apple. In this role, Ms. Bailey oversees all efforts for Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay, including technology, partnerships, operations and international expansion. Ms. Bailey previously ran the Apple Online Store, extending its operation to over 40 countries. Prior to joining Apple in 2003, Ms. Bailey served as vice president of Online Services and Operations at myCFO, a financial services firm. Ms. Bailey was also senior vice president at Netscape Communications, where she led outbound marketing and launched Netcenter, Netscape’s online portal business. Ms. Bailey earned her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Middlebury College, and holds an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
David A. Thomas is the Dean and William R. Berkley Chair for the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business. Dr. Thomas, who joined Georgetown in 2011 following a two-decade career at Harvard Business School, is a recognized thought leader in organizational behavior and strategic human resource management. During his administration, Dr. Thomas has increased the diversity of the school’s faculty to the extent that 55 percent are now women, under-represented minorities, or international. He has also increased giving to the school, revising the Georgetown McDonough $100 million capital campaign goal up to $125 million, of which the school currently has raised over $110 million. Prior to joining the Harvard faculty in 1990, Dr. Thomas was an assistant professor of management at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Thomas received a Bachelor of Arts in Administrative Sciences and Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Organizational Behavior from Yale University. He also holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University.
