Washington, DC - Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) received multiple "A" grades on the 2014 Federal Plain Language Report Card, for the use of plain language and compliance to the Plain Writing Act of 2010.  The Center for Plain Language annually rates agencies on their ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with the American public.

“Congratulations to the employees across the Department of Homeland Security who have worked so hard to promote the use of plain language in our Department’s communications,” said Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. “Clarity, transparency, and the Department’s responsiveness to the American public are amongst our highest priorities, and this success proves that we have exceeded that goal.”

Grades for 2014 were based on agency performance in three areas: compliance, plain writing, and design. Every year, the Center evaluates material from each agency that helps to inform the public about their mission, policies, and activities in order to assess their adherence to the Plain Writing Act of 2010.
