Washington, DC - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza entered an order of permanent injunction against Paul W. Franck of Ocala, Florida. According to the complaint filed with the consent decree, Franck manufactured and distributed drug products that were adulterated and misbranded in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). The U.S. Department of Justice brought the action on behalf of the FDA.

Washington, DC - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a new milestone for the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system, with more than 75 percent of all cargo imported into the United States—approximately 81,000 of the total 108,000 transactions every day now being processed electronically through ACE. The ACE system is also successfully processing approximately 97 percent of entry summary documentation, the critical information needed by the U.S. government to correctly assess duties, collect statistics, and ensure compliance with U.S. trade law.

Promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals who have paid their debt to society makes communities safer by reducing recidivism and victimization; assists those who return from prison, jail, or juvenile justice facilities to become productive citizens; and saves taxpayer dollars by lowering the direct and collateral costs of incarceration.

Washington, DC - In this week's address, the President repeated his call for Republicans in the United States Senate to give Chief Judge Merrick Garland a fair hearing and a vote. It has been 45 days since President Obama nominated Judge Garland to the Supreme Court. The President highlighted that Senate Republicans have said that Judge Garland is a man of experience, integrity and impeccable qualifications. Despite this, most Senate Republicans refused to do their job and give Judge Garland the consideration he deserves.

Berkeley, California - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a collaboration to accelerate research, development, demonstration, and deployment of innovative smart transportation systems and alternative fuel technologies. The agencies formalized this collaborative relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was unveiled yesterday at a symposium called Achieving Zero-Emission Mobility: The Role of Innovative Electric Vehicle Companies, hosted by the University of California Center on Economic Competitiveness in Transportation in Berkeley.
