Washington, DC - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) seized a record number of 34,143 shipments of goods that violated Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in FY2017. IPR seizures increased 8 percent over FY2016 and for the second year in a row, CBP and ICE seized more than 30,000 shipments of counterfeit and pirated products. The total estimated manufacturers’ suggested retail price (MSRP) would have been $1.2 billion had the products been genuine.

Greenwood, Mississippi - The Department of Justice announced that an officer at the Leflore County Juvenile Detention Center in Greenwood, Mississippi was charged with assaulting two juveniles in his custody. The indictment, which was returned on February 21, but unsealed today, alleges that Edward Gibson, 28, punched and threw an electric fan at one juvenile, and struck the other juvenile in the head and body.

Washington, DC - Today, the Department of Justice entered into a conditional settlement agreement with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and will begin to produce additional documents related to Operation Fast and Furious. The conditional settlement agreement, filed in federal court in Washington D.C.,  would end six years of litigation arising out of the previous administration’s refusal to produce documents requested by the Committee.
