Imperial, California - Coming to a senior center near you is a new documentary all about timeless love and speed-dating for the 70-plus set, according to the Association of Mature American Citizens.
The Age of Love, by award winning producer/director Steven Loring, is all about 30 men and women, aged 70 to 90, who get together at a Rochester, NY restaurant to chat with each other, five minutes at a time, with the aim of making a match.
The film is full of drama. As Loring put it in a National Public Radio report: "If a 75-year-old woman opens up an envelope from a speed dating event and doesn't get the man she was hoping for - and bursts into tears - what 16-year-old girl in America wouldn't understand exactly what she was feeling at that moment?"
But the documentary features real life characters who bring a smile to your face, says AMAC. For example, Donna Capuano is a young-at-heart speed dater who attended the Rochester event. She entered looking for the "guy that, when I'm doing dishes will come up behind me and nuzzle my neck and give me a hug... a guy that will pick up the phone and call me during the day just because he's thinking of me."
Sponsored screenings of The Age of Love are taking place across the country at senior centers, community centers and universities.
