St. Croix, Virgin Islands - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations Officers at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport identified and arrested a female with an outstanding arrest warrant in Wisconsin for violating probation on forgery charges.
Leah Marie Peters, 42, a citizen of the United States and place of abode in Illinois, was identified after she presented herself for CBP inspection before boarding a flight to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
Law enforcement databases alerted to a warrant issued by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, which was later confirmed.
“Customs and Border Protection is an agency committed to securing our borders while at the same time cooperating with other law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of U.S. laws”, stated Area Port Director for the United States Virgin Islands Louis Harrigan. “CBP officers will ensure that individuals that have transgressed the criminal justice system and are encountered at our borders are identified.”
Virgin Islands Police assumed custody for extradition proceedings.
CBP officers detect many individuals wanted by authorities in the continental U.S., upon their arrival to the USVI, or upon their return to the mainland from the USVI.
