Washington, DC - Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa O. Monaco and Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor Avril D. Haines met yesterday with human rights and civil liberties advocates as well as legal experts to discuss issues related to transparency regarding counterterrorism operations and the use of force by the United States.
They discussed advocates’ and legal experts’ ideas to provide more public awareness about the policies, legal justifications, and results of U.S. counterterrorism operations. Ms. Monaco and Ms. Haines expressed the Administration’s continued commitment to making available to the public as much information as possible about U.S. counterterrorism operations and the use of force overseas.
