Washington, DC - Today, Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL General John R. Allen briefed senior diplomatic representatives from among the 62 members of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL in Washington, DC. This plenary session was an opportunity for Coalition partners to review progress along multiple lines of effort, reaffirm support for an inclusive, unified Iraq, and discuss ways to enhance cooperation to degrade and defeat ISIL.
General Allen, with ambassadors and officials from the Embassies of Iraq, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands briefed the Plenary on progress across multiple Coalition lines of effort and provided a readout of the July 30 Coalition Small Group meeting in Quebec. Building on conversations in Quebec, Coalition partners discussed how to further strengthen, accelerate and integrate work, including ongoing support for stabilization operations in Iraq, enhancing humanitarian aid, increasing information sharing to counter foreign fighter flows and cut off ISIL revenues, and integrating support for women and children who have survived ISIL’s brutality. Developments with Turkey were also discussed.
This was the fourth Washington plenary session of Coalition ambassadors.
