Portland, Oregon - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers detained a Texas murder suspect as he returned on a flight from Tokyo, Japan, Friday.

CBP officers arrested 31-year-old Naim Muhammad Abdullah, a U.S. citizen, on an outstanding warrant on a murder charge when he arrived at Portland International Airport on a flight from Japan. CBP officers matched Abdullah to an outstanding warrant on a murder charge before he arrived. Officers escorted him to CBP’s secondary inspection area, where they positively identified him as the subject of the warrant. Officers transferred custody of Abdullah to local port police for extradition to Harris County, Texas.

“Customs and Border Protection supports our local law enforcement partners every day, and CBP takes pride in identifying and interdicting travelers who are fugitives to outstanding arrest warrants,” said John Barnes, CBP’s Area Port Director in Portland.  “The arrest of this subject exhibits the steadfast commitment of CBP officers to keeping our country safe.”

Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
