Hidalgo, Texas - A man wanted out of Mission, Texas for sexual assault and indecency with a child, both 2nd degree felonies, is now in custody after turning himself in to Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo Port of Entry.

“Our officers’ commitment to keep our community safe includes the apprehension of felons with outstanding warrants,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzaludas Port of Entry.

On March 22, CBP officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered 48-year-old Luis Enrique Beltran Peña, a Mexican citizen from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico as he arrived as a pedestrian. Beltran advised officers that he had a warrant for his arrest and was turning himself in. Although the man did not have any documents to enter the country, officers were able to consult the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) database and found that the man was wanted for sexual assault and indecency with a child charges in Mission, Texas.

The man was immediately taken into custody and turned over to the Mission Police Department for further processing.

Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in impressive numbers of enforcement actions in all categories.
