Paris, France - At the invitation of France's President Emmanuel Macron, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. will represent the United States – and states and regions around the world – at the One Planet Summit on Tuesday, the two-year anniversary of the Paris Agreement.

The Governor will deliver keynote remarks on the acceleration of local and regional climate action and discuss the devastating impacts of California's now nearly year-round fire season, which has been exacerbated by extreme weather and a changing climate. This year's fires have been among the most costly and destructive on record in California.

Yesterday, Governor Brown met with residents impacted by the fires and joined fire and emergency management officials for a briefing in Ventura County. Last week, the Governor announced that the state secured a presidential declaration providing direct federal assistance to support the response to the Southern California wildfires, following emergency proclamations issued for Santa Barbara, San Diego, Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

The summit will convene more than 100 regional and national leaders, including the United Nations Secretary-General, the World Bank Group President and a number of heads of state and environment ministers to drive further action to finance and scale up global efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

On Wednesday, the Governor will be awarded an honorary doctorate degree by École Normale Supérieure (ENS) before returning to California on Thursday.
