Niland, California - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station arrested a man for failure to stop at the Highway 111 checkpoint on Monday.
The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m., when the man, a 31-year-old United States citizen, drove a motorcycle to the checkpoint but failed to stop for agents and accelerated away to avoid inspection.
The man led agents on a chase that ended in a residential area where agents placed him under arrest.
Agents inspected a backpack the man was wearing which revealed a loaded 22-caliber revolver and a large knife.
“Utilizing their vast experience and training, agents arrested the suspect safely without incident,” said Scott D. Garrett, Patrol Agent in Charge of the Indio Station.
The man and his belongings were taken to the Indio Border Patrol Station for processing.
