Calexico, California - Wednesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Calexico station arrested three illegal immigrants near the Imperial Sand Dunes suspected of smuggling approximately 138 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of more than $82,000.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m., when Border Patrol agents assigned to the remote video surveillance system observed three individuals carrying large bundles in Mexico approach the International Boundary Fence. The individuals crossed over the fence into the U.S. and ran north towards Interstate 8.
Border Patrol agents responded to the area and apprehended three male Mexican citizens with no legal documents to enter or remain in the United States. The men were carrying three large bundles of marijuana.
The men and marijuana were turned over to the custody of the Imperial County High Intensity Drug Traffic Areas Task Force for further investigation.
