El Centro, California - On Friday, at approximately 2000 hours, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference a disturbance and shots being fired in the area known as the Slabs, east of the Township of Niland, California.
The caller reported a disturbance between a male and a female along with gunfire. The caller and several other witnesses approached the couple in attempt to diffuse the situation. The concerned witnesses reported they were fired upon several times by the male involved in the disturbance. The male subject was then observed fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The body of a deceased female was found at the scene by the witnesses. The female appeared to have died of gunshot related injuries. Deputies located the fleeing suspect's vehicle in the vicinity and stopped it. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 40 year old, Clayton Vincent Jones.
Jones was placed under arrest and booked into the Imperial County Jail. Charges were filed on Jones for First Degree Murder, two counts of attempted murder, and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Bail is set at $1 million.
