Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointments:
Sonya Logman, 31, of Antelope, has been appointed chief of staff of the California Complete Count - Census 2020. Logman has served as a deputy cabinet secretary in the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom since 2019. She was deputy secretary for business and consumer relations at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency from 2015 to 2018. She was director of external affairs at the California Exposition and State Fair in Sacramento from 2013 to 2015 and deputy appointments secretary in the Office of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. from 2011 to 2013. From 2006 to 2010, she served four administrations in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $140,100. Logman is a Democrat.
David Tucker, 59, of Richmond, has been appointed lead Northern California regional program manager at the California Complete Count - Census 2020. Tucker has been a regional program manager at the California Complete Count - Census 2020 since 2018. He was principal at the David Tucker Company from 2016 to 2018. From 2008 to 2016, he was director of community, government, and public relations at Waste Management. From 2004 to 2007, he was the municipal affairs manager at Waste Management of Alameda County. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $108,696. Tucker is a Democrat.
Mai Thao, 28, of Fresno, has been appointed lead Central California regional program manager at the California Complete Count - Census 2020. Thao has been Central Valley civic engagement director for Hmong Innovating Politics since 2017. From 2014 to 2017, she was a political community organizer for SEIU Local 521. From 2009 to 2013, she was lead assistant to the senior manager at the University of California Housing and Dining Department. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $103,032. Thao is a Democrat.
Carlos Beltran, 27, of West Sacramento, has been appointed regional program manager at the California Complete Count - Census 2020. Beltran has been a regional program associate at the California Complete Count - Census 2020 since 2018. He was an associate governmental program analyst at the California Student Aid Commission from 2017 to 2018. From 2016 to 2017, he was an executive fellow in the Secretary of State’s Office. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $90,100. Beltran is a Democrat.
Patricia Vazquez-Topete, 26, of Fresno, has been appointed regional program manager at the California Complete Count - Census 2020. Vazquez-Topete has been an associate regional program manager at the California Complete Count - Census 2020 since 2018. From 2017 to 2018, she was a tax credit analyst in the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development. From 2016 to 2017, she was an executive fellow at the Labor and Workforce Development Agency. From 2015 to 2016, she was diversity and outreach admissions counselor at Fresno Pacific University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $90,100. Vazquez-Topete is registered without party preference.
