Sacramento, California - Governor Gavin Newsom Wednesday announced the following appointments:
Jennifer Barretto, 43, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy director of facility support for the Division of Adult Institutions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She has been assistant deputy director of the Division of Adult Institutions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2017. She was chief deputy administrator of the Contract Beds Unit at CDCR Headquarters from 2016 to 2017 and acting warden and chief deputy warden of the California Health Care Facility from 2015 to 2016. Barretto held multiple positions at California State Prison, Sacramento, including associate warden and correctional administrator from 2014 to 2015 and 2008 to 2010, and correctional business manager I from 2006 to 2008. She was associate director of human resources at CDCR Headquarters from 2012 to 2014 and correctional administrator in the High-Security Mission of the CDCR Division of Adult Institutions from 2010 to 2012. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $178,536. Barretto is registered without party preference.
Kimberly Seibel, 54, of Elk Grove, has been appointed deputy director of facility operations for the Division of Adult Institutions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She has been an associate director of reception center mission at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2018. Seibel was warden at Deuel Vocational Institution from 2016 to 2018 and at Chuckwalla Valley State Prison from 2015 to 2016. She held multiple positions at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility from 1999 to 2015, including chief deputy warden, associate warden, captain, lieutenant and sergeant. Seibel was a correctional officer at California Correctional Institution, Tehachapi from 1994 to 1999 and an office assistant at California State Prison, Sacramento from 1993 to 1994. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $178,536. Seibel is a Democrat.
Dayanna Macias–Carlos, 32, of Concord, has been appointed public information officer for external affairs and media relations at the California Complete Count – Census 2020. Macias–Carlos has been a program associate at the California Endowment since 2013. She is a member of the Contra Costa Commission for Women. Macias–Carlos earned a Master of Arts degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $93,000. Macias–Carlos is a Democrat.
Taylor Desmangles, 27, of West Sacramento, has been appointed public information officer for social media at the California Complete Count – Census 2020. Desmangles was creative producer at Lamont Digital from 2018 to 2019. She was a journalist at Sacramento News and Review from 2016 to 2019 and human resources coordinator at Covered California from 2014 to 2016. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $84,000. Desmangles is a Democrat.
Alisha M. Wilkins, 44, of Temecula, has been reappointed to the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, where she has served since 2014. Wilkins has been owner of Hera Hub Temecula since 2019 and chief executive officer of the Empire Consulting Group since 2014. She held multiple positions at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest from 2001 to 2014, including community and government relations manager, interim director of public affairs and legislative coordinator. Wilkins earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in industrial and organizational psychology and a Master of Science degree in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Wilkins is a Democrat.
Lande Ajose, 53, of Oakland, has been appointed to the Educational Commission of the States. Ajose has been senior advisor on higher education in the Office of the Governor since 2019. She previously served on the California Student Aid Commission from 2014 to 2019, where she served as Chair for two years. She was executive director of California Competes from 2015 to 2019, where she served as deputy director from 2011 to 2015, and was senior vice president of the Opportunity Institute from 2015 to 2017. She was managing director for Informing Change from 2006 to 2011, a research associate for MDRC from 2005 to 2007 and a senior program officer for the James Irvine Foundation from 2001 to 2005. She is a member of the Advisory Selection Committee for the Regents of the University of California. Ajose earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in urban planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Public Policy degree in urban and regional studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Ajose is a Democrat.
Mike McGuire, 40, of Healdsburg, has been appointed to the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. He has served as a Senator in the California State Senate and has chaired the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture since 2014. McGuire was a member of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors from 2010 to 2014. He was mayor of the City of Healdsburg in 2006. McGuire earned a Master of Arts degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. McGuire is a Democrat.
Suzy Shuster, 47, of Beverly Hills, has been appointed to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission. Shuster has been host of the Official Lakers Podcast since 2018. She was a sideline and feature reporter for college football for ABC Sports from 2003 to 2006, where she was on NBA on TNT Playoff coverage in 2003, and a reporter and anchor for Fox Sports from 2000 to 2003, for which she earned an Emmy for sports reporting. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Shuster is a Democrat.
