Washington, DC - Friday, we join the global community in memorializing the lives lost during the Meds Yeghern, one of the worst mass atrocities of the 20th century. Beginning in 1915, 1 and a half million Armenians were deported, massacred, or marched to their deaths in the final years of the Ottoman Empire. On this day of remembrance, we pay respect to those who suffered and lost their lives, while also renewing our commitment to fostering a more humane and peaceful world.

San Diego, California - World Penguin Day is this Saturday, April 25, and two new residents of the Dan and Vi McKinney Penguin Habitat at the San Diego Zoo are starting the weekend celebration early by practicing what penguins do best swimming. This duo is the second set of chicks to hatch at the Zoo from eggs laid by the colony’s resident African penguins.

Washington, DC - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) today announced the first confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) infection in two pet cats. These are the first pets in the United States to test positive for SARS-CoV-2.
