Winterhaven, California - The 8th Annual Imperial Valley Renewable Energy Summit will be held March 11-13, 2015, and will focus on the ever changing - and expanding - opportunities for development in the region where the full spectrum of renewable energy production continues to thrive.

The theme for the Summit that will be held at the Quechan Resort in Winterhaven, Ca is “Imperial Valley: Powering New Frontiers.”

“This is always an exceptional Summit because the Imperial Valley is ground zero for renewable energy development,” said Tom DuBose, chairman of the Summit planning committee. “We are able to attract top flight speakers to cover a range of topics pertinent to the current state of the renewable energy industry, as well as provide a forum where plans for new developments are first discussed.”

There is no question that the Imperial Valley is the land of opportunity for renewable energy development. Geothermal, solar and wind power plants in the region already export well over 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy to surrounding communities. With the completion of renewable energy projects under construction, the Imperial Valley will be producing about 2,500 megawatts of renewable energy, making the region a key player in California’s ability to meet the renewable portfolio standards. Studies indicate the region has the potential to produce more than 25,000 megawatts of renewable energy.

Now, there are even more projects and opportunities in the offing. Biofuel and algae development is drawing new attention. Construction of a facility to extract lithium for batteries from geothermal brine is about to get underway.

These projects along with the challenges and opportunities will be discussed at the Summit including transmission, the Salton Sea, planning initiatives and new international frontiers.

The Summit will also feature a business exposition, networking receptions, banquet and a golf tournament.  In addition, tours of renewable energy facilities in the region will be offered.

Hosted by the Imperial Valley Economic Development Corp., this year’s Summit is presented by the Imperial Irrigation District.
