Salton City, California - El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents from the Indio Station assigned to the Highway 86 Checkpoint stopped a pickup truck loaded with marijuana earlier today.

The incident occurred at approximately 10 a.m., when a 25-year-old woman approached the checkpoint in a Chevrolet Silverado.

A Border Patrol detection canine alerted to the vehicle at the primary inspection area.  Agents referred the woman to secondary inspection area for a closer examination.  Agents subsequently discovered 58 bundles of marijuana concealed in the rear wall of the truck and stuffed inside of the spare tire.

The bundles had a combined weight of 149.8 pounds and a street value of more than $89,000.

The woman, a United States citizen, the vehicle, and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
