Calexico, California - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station arrested a previously deported convicted sex offender near the downtown area approximately 18 miles east of the Calexico port of entry today.
The 37-year-old man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents when he attempted to illegally enter into the United States. Agents later identified the man as Jose Adrian Sanchez-Martinez, a citizen of Mexico.
Criminal record checks revealed that Sanchez is a sex offender convicted of rape of a child in the second degree out of the state of Washington. Sanchez was previously removed from the United States and served a 17 month prison term on Aug. 21, 2008, for failure to register as a sex offender.
Border Patrol has the man in custody and will be presented for criminal prosecution for re-entry after previously being removed.
