El Centro, California - Today, a troubled person climbed a structure/tower at 5th and Broadway and indicated his dire wishes to officers and crisis negotiators on scene. Just prior to 6:30 PM, the man came down from the structure and was safely taken into custody. He will be taken to the appropriate local facilities through Imperial County Behavioral Health Services who equipped to deal with suicidal persons.

The El Centro Police officer and Negotiators on scene were patient and effective in this incident.

We would also ask our community members who took photos and video of the subject and posted them to social media, to stop and ponder what would you do and how would you feel if that were your loved one. Think for a moment of this person and his family, some of whom were present. Please be responsible, respectful, and remove any posts you may have made. It's the decent thing to do.
