El Centro, California - This morning, at approximately 2:16 AM, Officers from the El Centro Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of East Holt Avenue regarding a call of a traffic collision. The collision involved a vehicle which crashed into a house in the area. Prior to the officers arriving at the location, ECPD Dispatch radioed the officers and advised the driver of the vehicle was last seen walking south from the location of the accident.
Upon arriving in the area, the suspect was contacted by officers. He was identified as Monico Avila, a 44-year-old resident of El Centro. The vehicle driven by Avila, a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup, had smashed through the north bedroom wall of the home located at 365 E. Holt and caused major structural damage to the home. The homeowner was at home and asleep in bed when the vehicle crashed through the bedroom wall. The resultant impact struck the headboard of the bed the homeowner was sleeping in and ran into her dog. Fortunately, the homeowner uninjured, however her dog needed to be taken to a veterinarian due to injuries sustained in the collision. Avila was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and later transported and booked into the Imperial County Jail for DUI related offenses.
