Calexico, California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico West port of entry Friday morning apprehended a 24-year-old male Mexican citizen in possession of child pornography.
On Friday, August 17, 2018, at about 5 a.m., the man entered the Calexico West port of entry as a pedestrian and presented a B1/B2 visa to a CBP officer. The man requested a permit and proceeded to the permit processing area.
A CBP officer requested more information regarding the man’s travel arrangements and he stated that it was located on his phone. The man gave the CBP officer the phone so he could view a screenshot of the information. While handling the phone the CBP officer observed what appeared to be a photo of a naked minor.
CBP officers secured the man and escorted him into a secure area for further inspection. Further review of the phone content revealed numerous videos and images of minors engaging in sexual acts.
CBP officers turned the man over to Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing.
“CBP protects the American public and our local community when we enforce the law at our nation’s borders,” said Director of Field Operations in San Diego, Pete Flores. “Because of the vigilance of a CBP officer a man will face charges for possessing such disturbing media.”
